Biggest opportunity: Swap “accessibility” for “text generator”. “accessibility” isn't earning its slot: you're not in the first 24 results for its own search. “text generator” sits at #22 untagged, close enough for a declared tag to move it up. All five slots are taken, so one has to go.

How it's measured →4.0%
of downloads still active
At least 200 of 5K lifetime downloads are still running, above its category: the median AI plugin keeps 1.4%, across 1,010 plugins.
Downloads count every update, not just first installs, so older and more frequently released plugins read lower. Compare against other AI plugins, not across the directory. wp.org reports active installs as the bottom of a band, so the real rate is this or higher.
This plugin shipped 12 releases in the last 12 months, and every existing install that updated counted as another download. wp.org publishes no split between first installs and updates, so we show the raw rate rather than guess at one.

What to do about it
- Swap “accessibility” for “text generator”. “accessibility” isn't earning its slot: you're not in the first 24 results for its own search. “text generator” sits at #22 untagged, close enough for a declared tag to move it up. All five slots are taken, so one has to go.
- One page off on “alt text generator”. #11 puts you just past the first ten results, where almost all the clicks stop. The gap to close is small.

Directory rank
Ranked about #11,300 to #12,900, alongside the other plugins at 200+ installs. Plugins with the same install count swap places between wp.org requests, so this is where most of them sit. Checked monthly, last on 1 Nov 2026.
Update activity
How busy the existing users are, measured as downloads in the last 30 days for every 1,000 active sites. A spike means a new release everyone's pulling; a long, slow decline means an aging user base that updates less.
Release cadence

Estimated active installs
The public count shows “200+”. Our estimate pins where the real number sits.
Crossed into this band 3 months ago and a band this size takes about a year or more to cross, so the real count is still just over 200.

I had an excellent experience using the AI Alt Text Generator for SEO & Accessibility. The bulk alt text generation feature worked flawlessly on my products. With just one click, it processed all of my images and generated accurate alt text that effectively incorporated product names and targeted SEO keywords. I was able to clear my entire image backlog with a single credit purchase. I’m also pleased that the plugin now offers 50 free credits each month. Highly recommended!

I’ve been using AutoAlt.ai on a WooCommerce site and it’s been a real time-saver. It generates alt text in bulk without breaking anything, and I like that I can still do a quick one-off alt text for a single image when I’m editing products. The wording feels surprisingly “human” (not robotic), and the history/edit option is handy when I want to tweak a few later. If you have lots of images and you care about SEO + accessibility, it’s worth it.

Was will man mehr?

I’ve been using the Automatic Alt Text Generator for Images plugin on my WooCommerce store, and it’s been a game-changer. During the free trial, I could test it out and decide which package worked best for my needs. With just one click, it generates SEO-friendly alt text and detailed image descriptions for all my product images. The bulk processing feature saved me hours of manual work, and I love that I can customize keywords and descriptions to match my brand. It’s fast, accurate, and makes my shop more accessible while boosting my SEO. Highly recommended!
