Movers
Real growth, measured on active installs, not download spikes (those mostly track release timing). Active installs are reported in tiers (1k+, 10k+, 100k+…), so a plugin that crosses more tiers is growing faster. These boards rank by net tier crossings over the last 120 days.
What's moving in the plugin world
Week of 2026-08-17 · past reports
AI tools are pulling ahead
Downloads in the AI category jumped 42% across the 18 plugins tracked, the sharpest category move this window. Several tier crossings sit right inside it. WPVibe, a WordPress MCP server, reached 9K+ installs with six tier crossings. WSP MCP and ZIP AI climbed on the same MCP-connector pattern, and Spectra Blocks, an AI site builder, hit 20K+. The cluster suggests sites are wiring themselves up to AI agents rather than adding conventional features, though the plugins themselves don't say why adoption is bunching now.
Consent and SEO climbing together
SureCookie posted the strongest sustained growth in the window, nine tier crossings to reach 20K+, and WPConsent broke into the 100K+ tier on its own longer climb. Both are consent and privacy tools. On the SEO side, ThinkRank, Canonical SEO and BeyondSEO all climbed, each built around AI-assisted optimization rather than manual audits.
eCommerce and admin tools losing ground
eCommerce downloads fell 31.4% and Admin & Utilities fell 33.1% across the plugins tracked in each. Several small eCommerce plugins, including Dual Currency Display, BoxCart and iwocaPay, dropped a tier. Elsewhere, Internal Linking of Related Contents tripled its install tier in a single reading, from 1K+ to 3K+, an unusual jump with no clear cause yet. The long climbers, Premium Addons for Elementor, SiteGuard and Chaty, kept adding installs at the top end.
