AI tools are pulling ahead

Downloads in the AI category jumped 42% across the 18 plugins tracked, the sharpest category move this window. Several tier crossings sit right inside it. WPVibe, a WordPress MCP server, reached 9K+ installs with six tier crossings. WSP MCP and ZIP AI climbed on the same MCP-connector pattern, and Spectra Blocks, an AI site builder, hit 20K+. The cluster suggests sites are wiring themselves up to AI agents rather than adding conventional features, though the plugins themselves don't say why adoption is bunching now.

Consent and SEO climbing together

SureCookie posted the strongest sustained growth in the window, nine tier crossings to reach 20K+, and WPConsent broke into the 100K+ tier on its own longer climb. Both are consent and privacy tools. On the SEO side, ThinkRank, Canonical SEO and BeyondSEO all climbed, each built around AI-assisted optimization rather than manual audits.

eCommerce and admin tools losing ground

eCommerce downloads fell 31.4% and Admin & Utilities fell 33.1% across the plugins tracked in each. Several small eCommerce plugins, including Dual Currency Display, BoxCart and iwocaPay, dropped a tier. Elsewhere, Internal Linking of Related Contents tripled its install tier in a single reading, from 1K+ to 3K+, an unusual jump with no clear cause yet. The long climbers, Premium Addons for Elementor, SiteGuard and Chaty, kept adding installs at the top end.

AI tools keep stacking installs

Four AI plugins crossed install tiers this window, and three are MCP connectors: WPVibe (now 8K+), WSP MCP (600+) and Meow Workflow (50+), all built to hook Claude, ChatGPT or other agents into WordPress. Spectra Blocks also climbed, to 20K+. The cluster suggests site owners are experimenting with agent access faster than any single vendor could explain on its own. Growth isn't uniform across the category, though: Zeno and S2B AI Assistant both slipped tiers even as AI downloads overall are up 16.2% for the month.

Consent and scanning move up together

SureCookie crossed into 10K+ installs and Compromise Scanner for wp2shell reached 2K+, both with net tier crossings of five or more. Security downloads as a category are up 24.7%, and two established plugins, SiteGuard and Simple CAPTCHA with Cloudflare Turnstile, broke into higher tiers too. Read together, it looks like site owners are tightening consent capture and hardening admin access at the same time, though the tracker can't say what's driving either move specifically.

One spike worth flagging

Analytics had the sharpest category download swing of the month, up 58%. Elsewhere, Internal Linking of Related Contents tripled its install tier in a single observation, from 1K+ to 3K+. That kind of jump is unusual enough to note, but the cause isn't visible in the data yet.

Week of 2026-08-03

Signals worth noting

SureCookie crossed into 10K+ installs this window, one of nine tier crossings in the past month, alongside continued movement in Privacy & Consent downloads (+29.9%). A wave of state privacy laws taking effect could be pushing site owners toward consent tooling, though the data doesn't confirm cause.

FormLayer added four tier crossings on top of an already-large base (now 90K+), and Analytics had the sharpest download swing of any category this month, up 82.8%. Multilingual (+60.4%) and Chat & Support (+51.5%) also moved well past the rest of the field.

AI-category plugins are showing up on both sides of the ledger: WPVibe, Spectra Blocks, and AI Marketing Expert all climbed tiers, while two flipbook plugins, Flipa and TNC FlipBook 3D, gained installs in the same window, suggesting PDF-viewing tools are having a moment of their own.

Falling and flat

Losses this month skew smaller and scattered rather than concentrated in one category. Rapid URL Indexer, Easy remove item menu, and Freshdesk each dropped tier ground, with no shared pattern connecting them.

Internal Linking of Related Contents tripled its tier in a single observation, from 1K+ to 3K+, the kind of jump that reads more like a data correction than organic growth. Worth watching next window to see if it holds.

Established plugins still moving

Yoast Duplicate Post crossed 4M+ installs, and Chaty broke 400K+. Both are long-established plugins still adding meaningful share at a size where growth is harder to come by.

Week of 2026-07-27

Privacy and consent, split down the middle

Privacy & Consent downloads are up 19.9% this month, and the tier movement inside the category tells two different stories. SureCookie climbed into 2K+ installs, adding six tier crossings in a month, while Show Me The Cookies slid down to 400+, losing four. Both are consent-banner tools competing for the same install base, so this looks like share moving from one plugin to the other rather than the category cooling off.

Backup keeps compounding

Backup downloads are up 24.6% across 83 plugins, and JetBackup broke through to 200K+ installs at the end of June. That's a category that's been climbing steadily rather than spiking, which suggests ongoing demand rather than a single news event.

AI plugins pull in opposite directions

Two AI-tagged plugins moved this week, and not the same way. Spectra Blocks crossed into 10K+ installs, and Angie, an agentic AI plugin, broke out to 100K+. DominoPost, an AI writing and editing tool, dropped three tiers to 70+. The AI category isn't moving as a block. Site builders and agent tools are gaining ground while a content-editing AI tool is losing it, and the data doesn't say why.

What's Climbing

SureCookie and BeyondSEO both crossed into the 2K+ tier this window, with six net tier crossings apiece. Privacy & Consent downloads are up 19.9% across the category and SEO is a flatter category overall, so SureCookie's move fits a broader pattern while BeyondSEO's looks more plugin-specific.

Forms had two entries this window: SureDonation climbing toward 800+ installs and Sobi Forms crossing into the 100+ tier. Accessible Carousel & Slider picked up seven tier crossings on its way to 1K+, the only Media plugin to show up this way.

Search had the sharpest category move, downloads up 56.8% across 121 plugins, though no single Search plugin shows up in the tier-crossing list, so the growth looks spread across the category rather than concentrated in one name.

What's Falling

WP Ghost dropped three tier crossings, still sitting at 70K+, a large plugin losing altitude rather than a small one struggling. Show Me The Cookies lost four crossings in Privacy & Consent even as that category's overall downloads climbed, a split worth noting without a clear cause.

Breakouts

Yoast Duplicate Post crossed from 3M+ to 4M+ installs on 2026-07-16, and JetBackup crossed 100K+ to 200K+ on 2026-06-30, tracking with Backup's 24.7% category download growth this window.

An EU withdrawal button cluster

Four plugins built around the same job climbed tiers together this window. EU Withdrawal Compliance reached 1K+, WebToffee EU Order Withdrawal Button sits at 800+, and both Rétractation Légale and the Danish Fortrydelsesknap.dk posted matching runs. The naming across French, Danish, and English builds points the same way. This clustering likely tracks an EU consumer right-of-withdrawal requirement coming into force, since unrelated authors rarely ship the same narrow feature in the same 30 days by chance. The cause isn't confirmed in the data, but the shape is hard to read any other way.

Breakouts at the top

Yoast Duplicate Post crossed from 3M+ into 4M+ on July 16, a move that takes real volume at that height. JetBackup doubled its tier from 100K+ to 200K+ on June 30, which fits with Backup downloads rising 19.3% across the category over the window.

Category flow

Email & Marketing led download movement at +33%, with Search close behind at +31% and Admin & Utilities at +30%. Security and Backup both cleared 19%.

On the AI side, Supercharger and BeyondSEO climbed, while AI Database Optimizer and the agentic EasyCommerce slid to lower tiers, so the label alone isn't carrying anything. Universally reached 10K+, and older field plugins Ultimate Fields and Dynamic Fields for Elementor kept dropping.
