   This may not be needed as strongly starting from WP 3.9 but still a good choice for larger flexibility if you don’t want to override gallery code.

   –edit– After some clarification from the plugin author I modified this comment and the rating to go from 2 to 4 stars. Probably works well but I was unaware it cannot be used at the same time as Jetpack tiled gallery layouts. –/edit– Breaks the front end part of the jetpack tiled galleries. Was not able to verify the rest of the functionality of this plugin.

   I really like how this plugin extends the default WP [gallery] shortcode and adds options in the settings to integrate the WP default ThickBox.js. In addition, he provides basic list of strong alternative LightBox scripts that you can download and install.
