High removal-risk signals

63/100

Maintenance and integrity signals that tend to precede a WordPress.org removal. Not an official status, a heads-up to act.

  • Long abandoned. No update in 13+ years — the top precursor to removal once a vulnerability is found.
  • Compatibility drift. Tested only up to WordPress 3.6.1, well behind 6.8.

Update activity

How busy the existing users are, measured as downloads in the last 30 days for every 1,000 active sites. A spike means a new release everyone's pulling; a long, slow decline means an aging user base that updates less.

Estimated value

What this plugin might earn a year, and what it might sell for. Modeled from public signals; we don't see anyone's books.

Est. annual revenue

N/A

Est. acquisition value

N/A

No paid tier is visible, so we don't put a figure on revenue or sale value: that would be guessing. The install base is a real asset to an acquirer, just not one public data lets us price. A small install base leaves thin data to model from. The recent download trend is too spiky to read.

Doesn’t work well in HTTPS, and the shortcodes don’t always work either…

This widget seems like a good idea, but it’s weak in the execution. For example, while there is an option for ordering the past issues (by “Latest” or “manual… drop and drag) neither seems to work. In addition, some of the issues in the archives fail to appear in the list that is on the blog. Finally, I notice that several questions to the developers remain unresolved.

Thank you very much for this plugin, is great and very easy to use. I’d love to be able to sort by different columns such as post_title. And I would like to insert a link to an individual publication using the WYSIWYG editor. But is still great being able to add a category to a post or page and forget about manually creating links to documents is awesome!

I wanted a nice solution to list out monthly newsletters as an archive. This fits my need perfectly and takes care of all the formatting and categories. Just need to read the FAQ and support pages to find out all the cool options that are available.

I was looking for something that lists uploaded PDF documents in a pull-down list, and the WP Publication Archive is the closest thing I could find (I hacked the code to display docs in a pull-down list). If you want the hacked code, please contact Joe Nasevich at Whispering Woods Software. I would give 5 stars, but the documentation is wrong (e.g. when setting up categories for your documents, use the category name, not the slug – see discussion Category filter is not working and shows all files).
