High removal-risk signals

63/100

Maintenance and integrity signals that tend to precede a WordPress.org removal. Not an official status, a heads-up to act.

  • Long abandoned. No update in 12+ years — the top precursor to removal once a vulnerability is found.
  • Compatibility drift. Tested only up to WordPress 3.7.41, well behind 6.8.

Update activity

How busy the existing users are, measured as downloads in the last 30 days for every 1,000 active sites. A spike means a new release everyone's pulling; a long, slow decline means an aging user base that updates less.

Estimated value

What this plugin might earn a year, and what it might sell for. Modeled from public signals; we don't see anyone's books.

Est. annual revenue

N/A

Est. acquisition value

N/A

No paid tier is visible, so we don't put a figure on revenue or sale value: that would be guessing. The install base is a real asset to an acquirer, just not one public data lets us price. A small install base leaves thin data to model from.

Thanks, Mark! It’s so annoying that Jetpack automatically activates features without your permission, but this plugin stops that just like it says.

My hosting company said Jetpack was constantly writing to the database, so they had to suspend my account to stabilize the server. Anyway, I hope this plugin stops Jetpack from adding service that may get my account suspended again.

I use this on every site that has Jetpack. I especially like that you can install it before Jetpack to disable all modules, then you can manually activate only the ones you need.

Jetpack is pretty much a love-hate affair: brilliant features, but utterly confusing (or even misleading) UX decisions. Such as making it terribly easy to activate stuff without even noticing (by extending the activation area far beyond the “activate” button), and putting the “disable” button in a less-than-obvious location. In my book, those are crimes against elementary user experience rules. Fortunately for us, Mark Jaquith does a great job in making Jetpack’s behavior more reasonable, fixing those issues one by one (see also his aptly named Menu Humility plugin). Mark, you’re awesome! If only Automattic would make you Jetpack product leader. 🙂

Jetpack is annoying and awesome at the same time – which is weird because if Automattic wanted to be non-hypocritical, you could enable only the awesomeness. Well, that’s what this plugin does, and it does it well. Thank you Mark.
