   mon premier essai sur un site d’environ 150 pages a été très concluant. Dès que j’ai un peu de temps je passe à la version Premium pour transférer un site avec plus de 50k articles, plus de 1000 membres, des mots cles … etc 😅

   The plugin has one downside: importing a huge site can be tricky. I migrated a 4000+ posts, 1000+ keywords site from one (old) host to another, and imports tended to end before completion. You can restart an import where it was, but sometimes some database recordings are missed (my guess is the one the connection broke on can be lost sometimes). So as a workaround, I made a local MySQL backup of my Spip database, created a local WordPress site, used the plugin locally, and then exported the local WordPress site to my final host. That way, 1- the process is quicker so the risk of failure is lower 2- I could more easily check if everything had transferred, as everything was on the same database one the same computer. I also discovered a few bugs in the process (I think we had every type of taxonomy and links Spip was able to generate, with editors mixing complete URLs, local URLs and Spip shortlinks to posts, keywords and categories, all that often in the same post with random spaces before/after the post IDs!). And here’s the important thing: not only most of it worked out of the box (using the Pro version to manage taxonomies), but the plugin editor was one of the most reactive I’ve ever seen. Any bug report was usually assigned in the hour an corrected by the next day. So an overall efficient plugin (with some caveats for huge databases on slow hosts), and a very efficient support if you have any problem on the way.

   The plugin works fine with small sites, but with big ones you need to be careful. There will be times when it will tell you that the import is complete without reaching 100% and with the counters not reaching the total number of files and posts. In others, an error will appear that will make you think that things have failed. The problem is that nowhere does it warn you that in both cases the import continues and if you delete the content to start over, you will have a problem. You also can’t stop the import if for some reason you decide you don’t want to continue or you discover that there is something wrong and you have to start over. And even if the import ends, the bar will not reach 100%, so you will have to find out by comparing original and imported publications. The premium plugin doesn’t work better. It is the only option to import SPIP sites to WP but more reliable information on the process or greater control over the import would not be bad.
